Starbucks.. Peet’s,. Dunkin Donuts.. Folgers.. COFFEE.
Don’t most of us look forward to waking up in the morning and smelling that glorious aroma beckoning us into the kitchen? And if not in the kitchen, we all hit the coffee shops for our “caffeine fix.”
A recent article from the Huffington Post states that coffee consumption (in moderation) is actually more than just “getting our fix,” and that it is a healthy practice. Eleven reasons are provided for in the article:
1.) A study done in 2005 showed that coffee contains more antioxidants that anything else.
2.) Researchers at the Seoul National University discovered that exposure to coffee aromas can reduce stress from sleep deprivation.
3.) Studies have shown that drinking coffee may reduce the risk of Parkinson’s Disease.
4.) A study published in 2006 showed that people who drink at least one cup of coffee a day were 20% less likely to develop liver cirrhosis, and help prevent people from developing non-alcoholic fatty liver disease (NAFLD).
5.) A study done by the National Institute of Health found that coffee can make one feel happier and less likely to be depressed.
6.) A study done by the Harvard School of Public Health determined that coffee consumption has been linked to reduced risk of suicide in both men and women by about 50%.
7.) Following 112,897 men and women over a 20-year period, Brigham and Women’s Hospital and Harvard Medical School found that women who drink three or more cups of coffee a day are much less likely to develop skin cancer than those who don’t.
8.) A report in the New York Times states that coffee can make one a better athlete. Caffeine increases the number of fatty acids in the bloodstream, allowing athletes’ muscles to absorb and burn those fats for fuel, therefore saving the body’s small reserves of carbohydrates for later on in the exercise.
9.) According to a study from The American Chemical Society, coffee lowers the risk of Type 2 Diabetes,
10.) Researchers from the University of South Florida and the University of Miami found that moderate coffee consumption could appreciably reduce risk of Alzheimer’s disease or delay onset.
11.) CNN and TIME report that coffee allows your brain to work in a much more efficient and smarter way, and that pretty much most of the complex functions associated with intelligence will be improved.
All these reasons enumerated above just show how amazing coffee is, beyond the Caramel Macchiatos and the Pumpkin Spice Lattes. However, let us all keep in mind that consumption should be in moderation.

1. BE REALISTIC. Plan on setting goals that are attainable. Don’t eliminate things from your life completely, you can begin by slowly removing them until you don’t need them anymore.

4. MAKE A “PROS” AND “CONS” LIST. Sometimes it’s difficult to say good bye to old habits. A pros and cons list can help ease the transition by allowing you to see what is good and bad about your current habits or future goals.
5. TALK ABOUT IT. Communicate your goals to the people around you. Sometimes communication encourages friends and family to be more supportive, especially when you are trying to let go of an old habit, moral support is definitely important.
6. REWARD YOURSELF. Who doesn’t love rewards, especially when you’ve worked so hard to keep your goals. However watch that rewards don’t interfere with your progress, for example don’t reward yourself with chocolate if your goal is to lose weight.
7. TRACK YOUR PROGRESS. Keep track of your success by getting a diary or notebook where you can document all of your progress.
8. DON’T BEAT YOURSELF UP. Slip ups are bound to happen specially during your transition period, don’t obsess over a mistake. Move forward, Do the best you can each day.
9. STICK TO IT. Experts say it takes about 21 days for a new activity, such as exercising, to become a habit, and 6 months for it to become part of your personality. Your new healthful habits will become second-nature in no time.
10. KEEP TRYING. It didn’t work out and you gave up in February? It’s okay, you can start over again!! Don’t give up on your goals, remember you are doing this to better yourself, nobody else is going to do it for you. Get up and try again!

When most of us think about water, we might visualize a lake, river, stream, ocean, droplets of rain and so on, but we don’t really think much about our ground water. Ground water however, plays a very important role in our water cycle.
